MEC for North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) Kenetswe Mosenogi has congratulated an elite athlete from Mahikeng, Tete Morena Dijana for setting a new world record after winning Nedbank Runified 50Km in a time of 2:39:03 recently in Gqerberha. Dijana smashed the record which was previously set by Stephen Ramokoka (2:40:13), who is also from the North West Province in Ramatlabama village, at the same marathon last year.
“I am thrilled to see Tete delivering a superb performance and setting a new world record,” said Mme Mosenogi. “He is placing the entire nation on the map in addition to his hometown and province. This just came out a day after being honoured with a Special Premier’s Award, which is one of the highest accolades at the North West Sports Awards.” The athlete made a name for himself in athletics circles after winning the 2022 Comrades Marathon. His sterling performance also earned him the Premier Special Award at the North West Sports Awards held in Sun City on Saturday, February 25. Onalenna Khonkhobe, who is well known from the Comrade Marathon 2022 edition as the pacemaker, finished as Tete’s runner-up at Nedbank Runified after clocking 2:39:39.
